Panic Attacks
 Click image to go back to Anxiety Disorders. These are specific episodes of intense fear or discomfort that are characterized by at least four of the following symptoms. The attack comes on quickly, and rapidly builds to a peak, lasting usually 10 minutes or less. These attacks are often accompanied by feelings of immanent danger, impending doom, and the urge to escape. The symptoms include:
  1. Heart palpitations, pounding heart, or accelerated heart rate.
  2. Sweating
  3. Trembling or shaking
  4. Sensations of shortness of breath or smothering
  5. Feeling of choking
  6. Chest pain or discomfort
  7. Nausea or abdominal distress
  8. Feeling dizzy, unsteady, lightheaded, or faint
  9. Feeling that things around you are unreal, or feeling detached from yourself
  10. Fear of losing control or going crazy
  11. Fear of dying
  12. Numbness or tingling sensations in your body
  13. Chills or hot flushes
